One of the most enjoyable events to which I was invited as a speaker during 2018 was the annual convention of the Eagle Society. This is a group of enthusiasts who keep alive the genre of the great Eagle comic and the amazing graphic artists who worked for that famous publication which was part of childhood for so many men (boys?) of my age.
At its peak, its circulation was 900,000 copies per week.
All the more remarkable was the discovery that the convenor of the weekend attended the same school as myself though we had not previously met.
We did have a quiet giggle about one well-remembered front-page Dan Dare episode titled 'All the Treens Must Die!' Our French teacher was Mr Treen.
