No capping for parish & town council budgets
The Government has confirmed that it does not intend to apply 'referendum principles' to parish and town councils for 2021/22.
However, councils are expected to continue to show restraint when setting council tax precept levels. The statement is made (at paragraph 3.5.3) in the provisional local government finance settlement published on 17 December 2020.
The statement contains the warning that the level of increases in this coming year will be taken into account when the Government reviews the matter before the 2022/23 financial year.
