Minister wants 'beauty & quality' in planning

Robert Jenrick, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, has announced plans to bring beauty and quality of design into the heart of the planning system.   His proposals have so far included a number of key appointments:

  • Nicholas Boys Smith to lead an 'expert group' advising government on how to embed beauty and quality into a new, reformed planning system

  • Charles O'Brien appointed as the government's new heritage adviser to help communities protect their treasured historic buildings and monuments.

  • Appointments follow proposals to overhaul England's planning system, placing beauty and design quality at the heart of all new developments.
