Business rates on council public toilets abolished
The Non-Domestic Rating (Public Lavatories) Bill received Royal Assent on Thursday 29 April 2021.
The bill exempts local councils from paying business rates on their public toilets.
Previously across England and Wales, councils have had to pay in total several millions of pounds in business rates for the provision of public toilets. The savings will help local councils maintain and upgrade their facilities, which in turn will improve health and wellbeing and support tourism.
