Community history & heritage
Knowing the past provides a stronger sense of community, and helps us to understand the challenges of the present day. As individuals, we use memories and physical reminders of our past to draw us together through a sense of belonging in time and place. In a fast-moving world where so much is transient, our history and heritage provides anchors for all of us to hold on to.
Parish and town councils have a number of powers available to them to initiate and support projects that protect and develop local history and heritage.
Local history and heritage projects can bring communities together and involve people of all ages. Schools, youth clubs, U3A groups, churches and environmental organisations can all play their part in turning history into legacy.
I am a former General Secretary of the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society and editor of the society's magazine. I have been involved in a range of exciting heritage projects and have an MA degree in Regional & Local History from Nottingham University.
If I can help turn your heritage hopes into reality by working with you on project plans and funding sources, please contact me.
